About Karl Gibson

From the Mailroom to the Newsroom, Studios, and Streaming

Hollywood isn’t just a place — it’s a psychology and a mindset. Dreams can come true, but only with love for the craft, faith in the journey, and the tenacity to know that delays aren’t denials.

I’m Karl Gibson — author, host, and writer of this podcast. Part memoir, part encouraging hand, and all heart, this series shares how I got here: the highs, the lows, and the ongoing journey that might just resonate with you.

My Journey

I’ll take you on a guided tour — from a safe yet close-knit distance — through my 24-year (and counting!) career. From stage actor to newsroom pro, and now to the studio and streaming world, where I’ve managed Standards & Practices for some of the most iconic IP in the world: Star Wars and the Marvel Originals universe.

Each season covers a year. We begin in 2001 — the end of my five-year plan — when I transitioned from stage actor to staffer at The Hollywood Reporter, then a $80-million-a-year juggernaut.

This isn’t a tell-all. But I will be candid, especially about myself. Because life isn’t just a career. It’s the challenge of balancing love, family, growth, and the kind of intimate commitments that keeps you human — and connected to your audience.

Why This Podcast, Why Now?

Like many of you, I’ve sent out 300 résumés as a qualified professional and heard nothing but crickets. So, I decided to tell my story. Vulnerability doesn’t always pair well with hustle, launches, and studio planning…but here, it is transparency. I kept the journals. Now I’m ready to share.

This is a space for truth-telling, humor, reflection, and connection for any generation. Whether you’re Greatest Gen, Baby Boomers, Gen X (like me), Millennial, or Gen Z: I’ve got your back.

You don’t have to work in Hollywood to find meaning here. These stories are universal. Welcome to the Let’s Talk About Hollywood™ community!
